JEE Main Counselling is admitting students to the top IIITs or NITs, or GFTIs of India. Every year the JEE Main Counselling process gets conducted by JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority). JoSAA performs the process of seat allotment for 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, 29 Other-GFTIs and IIEST.
The Counselling process of JEE Main 2021 will most probably commence in June 2021 through online mode only after the declaration of JEE Advanced 2021 result. However, there can be a slight delay in the dates due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The counselling process occurs through Registration, Choice Filling, Choice Locking, Seat Allotment, and Fees Payment.
Before starting the Counselling Process, JoSAA will conduct two mock rounds to get an idea. After that, JoSAA will conduct a total of 6 rounds for completing the admission process.

JEE Main Counselling Process 2021
JEE Main Counselling Process consists of 6 steps, which are mentioned below with the description. The students must follow these steps to get admitted successfully by JoSAA.
If candidates miss anyone of the steps of JEE Main Counselling Process 2021, they will not be eligible for admission by JoSAA.
Step :1 Registration of Candidate on the JoSAA portal:
As part of the JEE Main 2021 Counselling, candidates have to register themselves on the JoSAA Portal. They can register themselves by filling in the personal and academic details on the registration form.
Candidates have to provide all correct details about themselves. Here are the steps are shown below to register yourself.
- First of all, visit the official website of JoSAA.
- Then enter the application number of the JEE Main exam along with the password and Captcha code.
- After clicking on the login button, candidates have to agree to all the conditions by clicking on the “I Agree” Option given below.
- Then after filling the registration form with the right details and submitting it.
Step: 2 Online Filling and Choice Locking Process:
In this step of JEE Main Counselling, aspirants will have to select the course and colleges according to their own choice and lock it. For this, candidates have to search for their listed college and also course in that college to lock it.
While filling the choice of colleges, the order of preference is important based on which the admission process will be conducted.
After filling the colleges do not forget to lock them, otherwise it will not be taken into consideration. Based on the candidate’s response to the college locking process, the institutes will also lock their seats for the students. The seats will get allotted then based on the availability of seats.
Step: 3 Seat Allotment Process:
All the students must know that seats will be allocated on the basis of the availability of seats in the Institute in any particular department. So, for the Seat Allotment Process; Choice Filling and Locking round will take place.
After that, seats will be allocated to the candidates. In this JoSAA will allocate the seats to the students according to their performance in the JEE main exam.
- Aspirants get an admission on the basis of obtained JEE Main AIR rank.
- At the time of the Seat Allotment process, JoSAA will check all the details including the Eligibility Criteria, Age, DOB, Category of Candidate, and etc.
Step: 4 – Payment of JEE Main Counselling Fees:
After the allotment of seats to the candidates, they have to pay the fees according to their category. JoSAA provides only two options to pay the fees that are Net Banking and E-Challan.
Step: 5 – Document Verification:
The last stage of JEE Main Counselling Process 2021 is Document verification at the help centre. After the Seat Allotment and Fees payment, candidates have to verify their documents at any help centre allocated by JoSAA with their original documents.
In any case, Uploaded document and Original document is not similar; then the admission will be cancelled by the Institute and also by JoSAA. If in any case a candidate forgets to report to the help centre within the specified time then the allotted seat will be cancelled.
Step: 6 – Final Verification at Allotted Institute:
Now, the candidates will also have to verify their documents at the allotted institute and pay the semester fees. Once after completion of JEE Main Counselling Process 2021, the Institutes will announce the dates and timing for verifying documents at the Institutes. So, all the candidates will have to verify their documents within the given dates and time.
What is Freeze, Float, and Slide Options in JEE Main Counselling Process?
Freeze Option: It means that candidates who are satisfied with the allocated seat in the particular institute can freeze their seat. By this process, the aspirants will not be able to participate in the remaining rounds of JEE Main Counselling Process.
Float Option: With this option, the aspirants who wish to accept admission to an allotted seat can also participate in the remaining JEE Main Counselling process.
Slide Option: Aspirants can use this option to reject a seat allotment and take part in the counselling process further.
JEE Main 2021 Counselling: Fees
For all reserved categories, the JEE Main authority will charge 20,000 INR. For all general category students, 45,000 INR will be charged.
